Developing others is perhaps the most important role of leadership.
A leader:
– sets the vision (with strong focus on WHY)
– builds systems and process that distribute responsibility & authority for problem solving and decision making
– leads by setting an example, being knowledgeable and by coaching & teaching
We have standardized methods for developing others. They include our daily gemba status meeting, our daily PDCA report out on activities and our weekly activity report out.
During all of these reviews, our role is to explain concepts, and show results. This helps to increase the capacity & capabilities of other leaders to support a culture of excellence in their organization.
How are you developing your leaders?
