Critical to Quality VS. Critical to Process

CTQ: This would be like the KEY POINTS in a job element sheet/job instruction sheet; those things that that are critically important to standardized work for the team member. They are things that must be done in a certain way, and/or checked in a certain way to maintain good quality. This would be indicated with a “Q” on the JES (job element sheet).

CTP: These are specifications for the process to operate correctly (denoted by an upside down triangle with “C” in it); machine settings, temperature settings, how often re-calibration should occur, how often to check machines, etc. It is also known as equipment or engineering standards; critical to maintaining the equipment to operate within standard. This also applies to machine design and operation.
